VAT Calculator
Add VAT to a price, or remove it to find the amount before tax.
Breakdown
How VAT is calculated
To add VAT, multiply the net price by the VAT rate and add it on. At the UAE standard rate of 5%, a net price of AED 100 becomes AED 105, with AED 5 of VAT. To remove VAT from a gross price, divide by 1 plus the rate: a gross AED 105 at 5% gives a net of AED 100. This tool does both, so businesses and shoppers can check either direction.
Questions
What is the VAT rate in the UAE?
The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%, introduced in 2018. Some goods and services are zero-rated or exempt. This tool defaults to 5% but accepts any rate.
How do I remove VAT from a total?
Switch to "Remove VAT" mode and enter the gross (VAT-inclusive) amount. The tool divides by 1 plus the rate to show the net price and the VAT portion.
Is VAT the same as sales tax?
They are similar but not identical. VAT is charged at each stage of the supply chain, while US-style sales tax is charged only at the final sale. For a simple price calculation the maths is the same.
